One of the truly aspirational categories of the Nottingham Restaurant Awards is without doubt, Young Chef of the Year, sponsored by New College Nottingham’s Academy of Hospitality & Catering CoVE (centre of vocational excellence). 

Each restauarant may nominate up to two individuals.

Deadline for applications is the 24th April.  The forms will then be put forward to be paper judged by Adrian Pratt of ncn and Sat Bains, Nottingham's only Michelin star chef and mentor of this award.

Successful applicants will then be asked to attend Adams Restaurant at New College Nottingham to meet with Adrian and Sat and undergo a simple cooking test on Monday 18th May.

The four successful finalists will go head to head, again at New College Nottingham, on Monday 1st June when they will be under the scrutiny of Adrian and his team and no less than four Michelin star judges; Sat Bains, Daniel Clifford, Paul Cunningham and Claude Bosi.  Each finalist will be asked to cook the dishes they have chosen on their application forms.

Rules:

  • Entrants must be between 18 and 22 years and working in a commercial kitchen, whether it be full-time or part-time.
  • Restaurants may submit up to a maximum of two individual entries per venue.
  • Entries must be received by Big Table PR Limited by the specified date.
  • Judges decision is final at any stage of the competiton and will be adhered to.
  • The judges decision remains final at all stages of the competition.
